Mission of Department of Law
The overall missions of Department of law, BGC Trust University Bangladesh are to prepare students for careers in the diverse legal profession including government, education, banking, foreign service, law reform & legal research, mediation, social activism, labor relations, politics, business, etc through teaching, training, and guidance as well as creating knowledge as to legal matters which help them to meet social, cultural and aesthetic needs of the people as well as to face the challenges of the new millennium and the realities of globalization with the dedicated mind of faculty members having social involvement with the professionalism. Our more oriented legal teaching method helps the students to analyze any legal issue and makes them aware about human rights which expedite the ultimate speed of implementing administration of justice.

Law Department’s curriculum reflects the changing requirements of the legal profession which build the professional ethics in the mind of law students. The Department of Law also preserves an environment in which faculty members discuss ideas about law from where a student will gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between law and society. It is a place where students share ideas and challenge opinions. It also arranges different seminar on burning issues regarding law.

The Department of Law offers 4-Year Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) degree. The objectives of the Bachelor of Laws with Honors (LL.B.) program is to provide a good, general and critical legal education; to meet the requirements of Bangladesh Bar Council as well as judicial service commission exam to become the judicial officers. So that holders of the degree are eligible for entry to legal profession in Bangladesh; to provide students with skills in legal research, including use of electronic databases and search tools, writing, and advocacy.

The Department of English Offers:

Bachelor of Arts in English

Master of Arts in English

The Department of English, BGC Trust University Bangladesh offers a four year Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Program in English Language and Literature. The syllabus aims to make the learners keenly aware of their national identity and statues, cultural heritage and tradition and thus enable them to successfully grapple with the modern-day world as competent graduates. This university is functioning in the very heart of rural life with a commitment to provide higher education for underprivileged students. Since most of them have a low foundation of English, in the early part of their undergraduate program a greater emphasis is given on their grooming up to the expected level as an expedient so that they can acquire a hands-on working knowledge of English, learning it in the modern lab-based methods.

So the syllabus has been given a pragmatic approach and designed keeping in mind the above objectives of the Program and after a thorough review of the syllabuses of the leading universities of the country and the opinions of national pioneers and experts in this discipline.

The details of the syllabus, credit hour system and distribution of marks are shown in the following pages.

To become one of the leading English departments in the country by widening students’ horizon of knowledge and by inculcating the 21st century graduate skills through interdisciplinary and practical approaches.

Mission:

To equip students with graduate skills – i.e. communication,  collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.

To enable students to appreciate texts from the perspectives of prominent critical approaches and theories.

To enlighten students with ethical values through constant exposure to and practice in their academic activities.

 

GRADUATE PROFILES

Graduates of the Department of English BGCTUB are expected to gain rigorous analytical and communication skills which make them sought after in the workplace. Whatever career a graduate chooses, he/she can expect to have developed these key graduate attributes:

  •      analytical skills, as they examine texts written in different genres and explore their authorship, contexts, and audiences
  •      communication skills, as they extend their vocabulary and hone their writing skills through essays, and creative exercises
  •      presentation skills, as they learn to shape language for specific tasks and audiences and formal assessments
  •     reflective skills, as they consider their own opinions and knowledge and how these are developing through engagement with literary and critical texts  and group discussion
  •    research skills, as they identify, locate, and select from appropriate materials relating to specific areas of enquiry
  •    IT skills, as they make use of electronic resources and communication tools, including the online learning environment
  •   team-working skills, as they participate with fellow-students in presentations and undertake group work
  •   employability, as they are groomed in a variety of skills in curricular and co-curricular activities during their stay in the Department
  •   ethical values, as values are inculcated through the practice of tolerance, accommodation, and respect of differences in opinions and cultural diversities.

1. Duration of  Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Program in English Language and Literature

The program, Bachelor of Arts with Honors shall extend over a period of 4(four) academic years comprising 8(eight) semesters and shall be completed by a student in not more than 6(six) academic years.

Admission Eligibility

A Candidate should have minimum GPA 2.5 in both SSC and HSC or in equivalent examinations or GPA 6.00 (combined) but score not less than GPA 2.00 in any individual examination.

Ward of Freedom fighter who have GPA 5.00 (SSC + HSC) are eligible for admission into the undergraduate programs but score not less than GPA 2.00 in each individual examination.

In case of break of study (after HSC), students will have to submit break of study certificate at the time of admission.

O/A Level students must have minimum 5 subjects in O level and 2 subjects in A Level in which GPA 4.00 in 4 subjects and GPA 3.50 in 3 subjects.

The Department offers - BSS (Hons) in Journalism & Media Studies

The Department of Journalism & Media Studies is a part of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at BGC Trust University Bangladesh. The Department started its journey in the session, July –December 2020 to produce university graduates having specialized knowledge in Journalism and the media world. The Department offers four years bachelor's degree in BSS (Hons) in Journalism & Media Studies. The Duration of the program shall extend over a period of 4 (four) academic years comprising 8 (eight) semesters and shall be completed by a student in not more than 6 (six) academic years.

Vision of the Department of Journalism & Media Studies

Department of Journalism and Media Studies strives to become a center of excellence for journalism and media studies in the country. The Department envisions preparing students for the current and future journalism and media world with a high intention of social responsibility, moral ethics, and creativity.

Mission of the Department of Journalism & Media Studies

1. To provide quality education in fundamental concepts, skills, and ethics of journalism and operating media.

2. To explore and study the current and future trends, practices, and application of technology in journalism and media studies.

3. To divert students’ focus on critical thinking, reasoning, civic engagement, and communication so that they can play leadership roles in Journalism and the media world.
